Dear Christ Church Family,

Many of you saw our 2011 Stewardship Movie; chronicling some of the activities we did during the last year, and a little before that.  I have a thought about this.  I would like to start an annual montage of things we do at, for, and on behalf of Christ Church, and call it “ A Year In The Life of CEC” (thanks Pete).

If you are interested in participating in this, please TAKE PICTURES!! I am guessing also, our resident shutterbug Bill Wyrick might be on hand from time to time to snap shots of what we are doing.  All are welcome, and important to the life of the church. If you’re doing it for God, IT’S IMPORTANT.   Also, it’s fun to look back to see what we’ve done.  If you will please provide me with digital picture files, (jpeg), I can put something together accompanied by music.  I cannot use ALL pictures you provide but would use several I feel represent you or your group best.   I would then be glad to burn DVD’s for anyone who would like one.  Think of it, a digital photo album set to music.  It’s a nice keepsake and remembrance of our lives here at Christ Church. In addition, it’s possible we can download this to our web site to show curious guests who we are, and what we do in the love of Christ.

I would like to start this project now to more or less coincide with the Church year, beginning in Advent and continuing receiving pictures through September of 2012.  My goal is to have something completed in time for the next In Gathering Sunday.

All are welcome, and I hope YOU will participate.  Now say CHEESE. No, make that JESUS!!

Yours in Christ,

Ray Locke

It is time to order poinsettias for Christmas.  The cost for each plant will be $15.50.  All orders must be turned in by December 4th, so that the total order may be placed on December 7th

*Order forms can be found in our Church Hall under the poinsettia post
*Completed forms can be placed in Judy Cutler’s box

Dear Christ Church family,

Well, its getting to be that time again.  What time is that, you say?  Advent!  The time we wait with joyful anticipation for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, I say.  And how do we mark the time, you say?  With Advent wreaths, I say. I would once again like to gather all who are interested to make fresh Advent wreaths for your homes. I think it was a great success last year. I recall people from our well loved seniors like Helen Ann, to our youngest lambs getting together in Faith, Fun, and Fellowship to help continue a worshipful time honored tradition.
The date for this gathering will be Sunday, November 27, 2011, which is the First Sunday in Advent. We begin Year B. We will begin immediately following the 9:00am Celebration Service.
I will bring the necessary hard goods and some Evergreen Material.  If others have pretty long lasting foliage from their yards they can contribute to the festivities, that would be wonderful.
The cost this year to make a wreath will be $12.00/ea. Please bring cash, or make a check out to me, Ray Locke. If you wish to take part in this CEC tradition please let me know no later than November 20th. Call me at home, or see me at church, anytime between now and then.
I hope you are looking forward to our gathering as much as I am, and I hope to see you there. Happy New Year !!

In anticipation of His coming,

Ray

Reading Nov 13

Reader:  A reading from 1 Thessalonians [:1-11]
Paul reminds believers that no one knows when history will end, so they must turn away from sin and live in the light of Christ.
Reader: Hear what the Spirit is saying to the Church.
People:  Open our ears to hear your Word.

I don't think, friends, that I need to deal with the question of when all this is going to happen. You know as well as I that the day of the Master's coming can't be posted on our calendars. He won't call ahead and make an appointment any more than a burglar would. About the time everybody's walking around complacently, congratulating each other—"We've sure got it made! Now we can take it easy!"—suddenly everything will fall apart. It's going to come as suddenly and inescapably as birth pangs to a pregnant woman.
But friends, you're not in the dark, so how could you be taken off guard by any of this? You're sons of Light, daughters of Day. We live under wide open skies and know where we stand. So let's not sleepwalk through life like those others. Let's keep our eyes open and be smart. People sleep at night and get drunk at night. But not us! Since we're creatures of Day, let's act like it. Walk out into the daylight sober, dressed up in faith, love, and the hope of salvation.
God didn't set us up for an angry rejection but for salvation by our Master, Jesus Christ. He died for us, a death that triggered life. Whether we're awake with the living or asleep with the dead, we're alive with him! So speak encouraging words to one another. Build up hope so you'll all be together in this, no one left out, no one left behind. I know you're already doing this; just keep on doing it.

Readings November 13th &
+The First Lesson: Disobedience caused God’s people to fall into slavery, but the Lord promises to restore their freedom when he sees their repentance.

A Reading from Judges [4:1-7]
The Israelites again did what was evil in the sight of the LORD, after Ehud died. So the LORD sold them into the hand of King Jabin of Canaan, who reigned in Hazor; the commander of his army was Sisera, who lived in Harosheth-ha-goiim. Then the Israelites cried out to the LORD for help; for he had nine hundred chariots of iron, and had oppressed the Israelites cruelly twenty years.
At that time Deborah, a prophetess, wife of Lappidoth, was judging Israel. She used to sit under the palm of Deborah between Ramah and Bethel in the hill country of Ephraim; and the Israelites came up to her for judgment. She sent and summoned Barak son of Abinoam from Kedesh in Naphtali, and said to him, "The LORD, the God of Israel, commands you, `Go, take position at Mount Tabor, bringing ten thousand from the tribe of Naphtali and the tribe of Zebulun. I will draw out Sisera, the general of Jabin's army, to meet you by the Wadi Kishon with his chariots and his troops; and I will give him into your hand.'"

Psalm 123:1-7, 33-43  Page 780 , BCP

To you I lift up my eyes, *
to you enthroned in the heavens.

As the eyes of servants look to the hand of their masters, *
and the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress,

So our eyes look to the LORD our God, *
until he show us his mercy.

Have mercy upon us, O LORD, have mercy, *
for we have had more than enough of contempt
,

Too much of the scorn of the indolent rich, *
and of the derision of the proud.

+The Second Lesson: Paul recalls his tireless efforts to proclaim the gospel, and gives thanks that believers accepted his teaching as God’s word.
A Reading from 1 Thessalonians  [5:1-11]
Concerning the times and the seasons, brothers and sisters, you do not need to have anything written to you. For you yourselves know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. When they say, "There is peace and security," then sudden destruction will come upon them, as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and there will be no escape! But you, beloved, are not in darkness, for that day to surprise you like a thief; for you are all children of light and children of the day; we are not of the night or of darkness. So then let us not fall asleep as others do, but let us keep awake and be sober; for those who sleep sleep at night, and those who are drunk get drunk at night. But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, and put on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation. For God has destined us not for wrath but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep we may live with him. Therefore encourage one another and build up each other, as indeed you are doing.
