New Art Initiative
We are
excited to be starting a new creative way to get people involved at Christ
Church. We will start decorating the church with artwork that represents the
seasons of the church. This will be an ongoing project and will always be
changing throughout the year. Everyone can participate. This will give all our
creative folks another way to add to the service through artwork and the
children another way to participate as well.
We will be
celebrating Pentecost on May 27th. Pentecost is the birthday of the church and
a celebration! We would love artwork that represents this! It can be any size
and can use an medium. Please drop it off at the church so it can be hung up
before the service on May 27th. Or you can bring in any of the next few Sundays
to add to the artwork that will already be there.

Dear Church Family,
As we work to redefine ourselves as a church, we are also attempting to
create a new worship service that will be meaningful to everyone. As you may have heard, this new service will
begin at 10:00am, and will eliminate the 9:00am and 11:00am services. While many aspects of our church life are
impacted, one of primary concern to me particularly is when the Christian
Education hour would occur. As a group we have decided our Christian Education
hour will begin at 9:00am and end at approximately 9:50-55am, so we can all get
together to worship at the 10:00 service.
For parents who will bring their children for Christian Education, there
will be appropriate Christian Ed. for them as well. No worrying about standing around for an hour
or so. As the Christian Ed. hour will begin
at 9:00am and the worship service will end at 11:00am, there will be no alteration
of time spent from what we currently experience now as “9:00’rs”. This new arrangement will begin with the
coming of the 2012-2013 school year.
There has been a lot of work that has gone into creating a new service
for all, and there is still more work to be done. While understandably there has been concern
and some apprehension over how this service will look, there has also been a
lot of reaching out and understanding. I
am confident we will, can, and are coming up with a worship service that will
be meaningful and enriching to all who will avail themselves of it. Give it a try. There is nothing to lose and
everything to gain in the life of Christ. What could be better than that? Come
one, come all.

Come to St. Luke’s and
experience it’s early history and that of the broader community of Isle of
Wight. Christ Episcopal Church will
highlight our own historical path that led us from St. Luke’s to the old
rectangular building we now call our church.
Volunteers are needed to introduce others to our place of worship. A great time to invite new members to our
church. Please speak with Gary if you
would like to help!

During this time, Peter stood
up in the company—there were about 120 of them in the room at the time—and
said, "Friends, long ago the Holy Spirit spoke through David regarding
Judas, who became the guide to those who arrested Jesus. That Scripture had to
be fulfilled, and now has been. Judas was one of us and had his assigned place
in this ministry.
Judas must now be replaced.
The replacement must come from the company of men who stayed together with us
from the time Jesus was baptized by John up to the day of his ascension,
designated along with us as a witness to his resurrection."
They nominated two: Joseph
Barsabbas, nicknamed Justus, and Matthias. Then they prayed, "You, O God,
know every one of us inside and out. Make plain which of these two men you
choose to take the place in this ministry and leadership that Judas threw away
in order to go his own way." They then drew straws. Matthias won and was
counted in with the eleven apostles.

A Reading from Acts [1:15-17,21-26]
In those days Peter stood up among the believers (together the crowd numbered about one hundred twenty persons) and said, "Friends, the scripture had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit through David foretold concerning Judas, who became a guide for those who arrested Jesus-- for he was numbered among us and was allotted his share in this ministry. So one of the men who have accompanied us during all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, beginning from the baptism of John until the day when he was taken up from us-- one of these must become a witness with us to his resurrection." disciples are told to have confidence that their prayers are being heard by

If we receive human
testimony, the testimony of God is greater; for this is the testimony of God
that he has testified to his Son. Those who believe in the Son of God have the
testimony in their hearts. Those who do not believe in God have made him a liar
by not believing in the testimony that God has given concerning his Son. And
this is the testimony: God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not
have life.
I write these things to you
who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have
