The Bishop is Coming!Our bishop, the Right Rev. Holly Hollerith, will be with us next Sunday.  We will have one service at that will include confirmation and a reaffirmation of our Baptismal vows.   After the service we will have a reception and also a forum time in which the Bishop will address the community.  If you can, please bring some kind of finger food to share at the reception.  The stewardship committee also plans to have a powerpoint presentation on the ministries of Christ Church to watch at the reception.   Come get to know our spiritual leader, Bishop Holly, and celebrate our diocese and our church with him.   The loose offering this Sunday will go to our Bishop's discretionary fund, so be generous!

Finances at Christ Church
Pledges and plate at
Christ Church have been very low in recent months, so that -- although we have continued to tighten our belt on expenses -- we have a negative budget income verses expense of nearly $20,000 for the year as of September 1.   If you have pledged and not been able to keep up on your promise, please try to catch up.  If you have pledged and plan to give a larger gift near the end of the year, please let our treasurer, Bob Amato, know that.   If you did not pledge this year, please consider giving more for the ministry of Christ at Christ Church.  If you are able, consider an extra gift.   Thank you.

Readings: October 16 7.45 & 11am
+The First Lesson: God reassures Moses of his continuing relationship with a new covenant, and by allowing Moses to stand in his presence.

A Reading from Exodus [33:12-23]
Moses said to the LORD, "See, you have said to me, `Bring up this people'; but you have not let me know whom you will send with me. Yet you have said, `I know you by name, and you have also found favor in my sight.' Now if I have found favor in your sight, show me your ways, so that I may know you and find favor in your sight. Consider too that this nation is your people." He said, "My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest." And he said to him, "If your presence will not go, do not carry us up from here. For how shall it be known that I have found favor in your sight, I and your people, unless you go with us? In this way, we shall be distinct, I and your people, from every people on the face of the earth."
The LORD said to Moses, "I will do the very thing that you have asked; for you have found favor in my sight, and I know you by name." Moses said, "Show me your glory, I pray." And he said, "I will make all my goodness pass before you, and will proclaim before you the name, `The LORD'; and I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy on whom I will show mercy. But," he said, "you cannot see my face; for no one shall see me and live." And the LORD continued, "See, there is a place by me where you shall stand on the rock; and while my glory passes by I will put you in a cleft of the rock, and I will cover you with my hand until I have passed by; then I will take away my hand, and you shall see my back; but my face shall not be seen."

Psalm 99 Page 728, BCP

The LORD is King;
let the people tremble; *
he is enthroned upon the cherubim;
let the earth shake.

The LORD is great in Zion; *
he is high above all peoples.

Let them confess his Name, which is great and awesome; *
he is the Holy One.

"O mighty King, lover of justice,
you have established equity; *
you have executed justice and righteousness in Jacob."

Proclaim the greatness of the LORD our God
and fall down before his footstool; *
he is the Holy One.

Moses and Aaron among his priests,
and Samuel among those who call upon his Name, *
they called upon the LORD, and he answered them.

He spoke to them out of the pillar of cloud; *
they kept his testimonies and the decree that he gave them.

O LORD our God, you answered them indeed; *
you were a God who forgave them,
yet punished them for their evil deeds.

Proclaim the greatness of the LORD our God
and worship him upon his holy hill; *
for the LORD our God is the Holy One.

+The Second Lesson: Paul commends the Thessalonian Christians for their conversion and faithfulness. Their upright living is an example for believers everywhere.
A Reading from 1 Thessalonians  [1:1-10]
Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy, To the church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ:
Grace to you and peace.
We always give thanks to God for all of you and mention you in our prayers, constantly remembering before our God and Father your work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ. For we know, brothers and sisters beloved by God, that he has chosen you, because our message of the gospel came to you not in word only, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction; just as you know what kind of persons we proved to be among you for your sake. And you became imitators of us and of the Lord, for in spite of persecution you received the word with joy inspired by the Holy Spirit, so that you became an example to all the believers in Macedonia and in Achaia. For the word of the Lord has sounded forth from you not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but in every place your faith in God has become known, so that we have no need to speak about it. For the people of those regions report about us what kind of welcome we had among you, and how you turned to God from idols, to serve a living and true God, and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead-- Jesus, who rescues us from the wrath that is coming.

Reader:  A reading from Exodus [33:12-23]
God reassures Moses of his continuing relationship with a new covenant, and by allowing Moses to stand in his presence
Reader: Hear what the Spirit is saying to the Church.
People:  Open our ears to hear your Word.

Moses said to God, "Look, you tell me, 'Lead this people,' but you don't let me know whom you're going to send with me. You tell me, 'I know you well and you are special to me.' If I am so special to you, let me in on your plans. That way, I will continue being special to you. Don't forget, this is your people, your responsibility."
God said, "My presence will go with you. I'll see the journey to the end."
Moses said, "If your presence doesn't take the lead here, call this trip off right now. How else will it be known that you're with me in this, with me and your people? Are you traveling with us or not? How else will we know that we're special, I and your people, among all other people on this planet Earth?"
God said to Moses: "All right. Just as you say; this also I will do, for I know you well and you are special to me. I know you by name."
Moses said, "Please. Let me see your Glory."
God said, "I will make my Goodness pass right in front of you; I'll call out the name, God, right before you. I'll treat well whomever I want to treat well and I'll be kind to whomever I want to be kind."
God continued, "But you may not see my face. No one can see me and live."
God said, "Look, here is a place right beside me. Put yourself on this rock. When my Glory passes by, I'll put you in the cleft of the rock and cover you with my hand until I've passed by. Then I'll take my hand away and you'll see my back. But you won't see my face."
